Crop PDF and Remove Margins — Trim Edges on All Sides

Thick margins on a PDF — whether from the original document design, a scanner, or an export process — waste screen real estate and print paper. PDF me's Crop tool lets you trim any or all edges by dragging the crop handles inward, removing the unwanted margin space and tightening the layout. Set the same amount for all edges or trim each side independently.

Why PDF margins are often too large

Document templates in Word, Google Docs, and similar tools default to generous margins — typically 2.5 cm on each side — which are appropriate for reading printed pages but excessive for on-screen use or for embedding in a presentation. A PDF exported with these defaults includes a large empty border that compresses the content into the centre.

Scanner apps also add a safety margin around every scanned page to prevent edge clipping. The result is a PDF where the actual document content is surrounded by a thick white border that wasn't present in the original paper document.

How to remove margins from a PDF step by step

Drag each crop handle inward by the same amount to remove uniform margins. Drag individual handles independently to trim different amounts from each side.

  1. Open the Crop PDF tool and upload your document.
  2. Select the pages whose margins you want to remove — or select all pages.
  3. Drag the crop handles inward until the margin is removed. For symmetrical margins, drag all four handles by equal amounts.
  4. Click Download. The saved file has the margins removed permanently.

How do I remove margins from a PDF?

Open the Crop PDF tool, upload the document, select the pages, drag the crop handles to the content edge on each side, and download. The margins are permanently removed from the saved file.

Margin removal works by adjusting the PDF's CropBox — the boundary that controls what is displayed. Content in the margin area is hidden, not deleted. This is non-destructive: if the original had important content near the edges, it can be recovered by re-expanding the crop box.

If you need to remove margins from all pages at once, select all pages before dragging the handles. Every page in the document will be cropped with the same margin settings.

Frequently asked questions

How do I remove margins from a PDF?

Open the Crop PDF tool, upload the file, select pages, drag the crop handles to the content edge, and download. Margins are removed permanently from the new file.

Can I remove margins from all pages at once?

Yes. Select all pages before dragging the crop handles. The same margin removal is applied to every selected page in one step.

What's the minimum margin I can remove?

You can remove all margin right down to the content edge — the crop boundary can be placed anywhere on the page, including flush against the content.

Will removing margins affect text?

No, as long as the crop boundary does not overlap the text. Set the boundary at the edge of the content area and text remains fully visible and legible in the cropped file.
